If You want to  add some custom metadata fields to item, You have to add/Modify the following entry in Configuration:

key=Custom,componentType=Metadata,Value=,FieldName1,FieldName2,

After then, You can set those fields in Metadata tab, and get metadata from object just by calling Item::getMetadataContent('FieldName')
